Your Mac Questions Answered
TF2 latest blog entitled “Your Mac Questions Answered” talks about their latest news for TF2 coming to Mac. Valve recently announced that steam and all Source engine games will be coming to the Mac and they have been receiving many emails for TF2 players. A few of the questions they answered where: will the games change any, do I have to repurchase TF2 for Mac, and will Mac and PC computers play on the same servers.
There has still been no announcement for release dates.

TF2 Blog Update - Repair Node
In the Team Fortress 2 released 2/3/10 titled Dammit dammit dammit dammit! Brandon Reinhart, from the Team Fortress team, talked about the limitations and problems that come with dreaming up an awesome Engineer update. For the most part, he indulged us with talk about one of their failures, the Repair Node. The Repair Node was meant to repair the sentry gun in short bursts, in order to free up the Engineer so that he might run to the front line to get into the action a little more. The one trade-off with this, though, was that the node had to take the place of either the Engi’s teleporter or dispenser.
They ran into several major issues with this new concept, one being that the team was much more limited without teleporters or a dispenser. Another complication came when the Engineer turtled behind his sentry gun the entire time, using the help from his Repair Node to keep his gun up longer. Both of these situations changed the course of action in many of the standard maps and changed the dynamics of the Engineer’s roll as a defensive player in a bad way. In the games where there were no teleporters or dispensers or when the Engi left his nest to help in the front lines, the Engineer was perceived by the team as not being as much of a team player. In the case of the Engineer turtling behind his gun with the Repair Node, the Engineer caused more map choke points which unbalanced many maps. The one benefit from the failed attempt with the Node is that the TF2 team learned two things: That the dispenser and teleporter are both very important and that the Engineer is still tied to his base.
No doubt the TF2 team at Valve will come up with a mind-blowing, genius idea to give the Engi some extra pizazz, but for now we must say… RIP little Repair Node.

Is there a possibility this plays into the TF2 100? Newspaper. Well, that really depends on what counts as a patch. We’re well over 100 if we just go by every patch mentioned on TF2 filtered Steam News page but a few of those patches are generic “Orange Box” or “Source Engine” updates, a few are combined updates for TF2 and Do S.
A quick tally of the updates: (don’t quote us, there are a lot of updates and these numbers may be off a bit, even with some double-checking.)
- 91 Team Fortress 2 updates
- 7 Team Fortress 2/Day of Defeat: Source updates (3 of which didn’t have anything specific for TF2)
- 2 Orange Box Updates (1 of which apparently didn’t affect TF2 at all, the other had nothing specifically for TF2)
- 1 Source Engine Update (That had nothing specific for TF2)
So, we could be considered to be at 100, or only at 95.
A quick thanks to Undead Scottsman for the speculation and the tally.
TF2 Newspaper 100? What does it mean?

By now, if you haven’t see this 100? newspaper image on the TF2 opening load screen you either are not playing enough Team Fortress 2 or you are you need to set up an appointment with your eye doctor to check your vision. Under the “100?”, in small print, it says “What will this historic goal mean for mankind?” In the latest Soldier/Demoman update most of the news leading up to the war update was given in the form or newspaper headlines on the front of newspapers such as the one above. It appears that Valve has continued on with the style of informing us for this next update or event. One thing we do know based off the latest interview from Robin Walker is that the next update will not be the Engineer update but possibly a “Classless Update Part 2″.
Many TF2 gamers have speculated on what the 100 actually stands for. Some speculations have been quite believable such as, 100 days from the last update until the next (is their “goal”), a total of 100 items in inventory after the next update, a total of 100 hats after the next update, A total of 100 blog post (they are actually at 127), TF2 offical group reached 100k members, or 100 non-class related achievements added to the game to get a special hat. Then there has been some of the crazier, but possible, speculations such as, could be related to the new secret Soldier/Demoman high five animation taunts, total of 100 official tf2 Valve maps added after this update, number of reasons not to use the Pyro’s backburner, or the announcer is turning 100.
So if the 100 days until the next update is true, this would mean the next update would be Saturday, March 27, 2010, which is most likely not true considering all TF2 updates take place during the week.
So after reading all this information, your probably saying, “Ok, but what does the 100?, What will this historic goal mean for mankind, actually stand for!” Well, we all probably won’t actually know until the next update but, the team here at TF2PRO.COM put our huge brains together and came up with this guess: 100 is currently the max number of items you can carry in your backpack. However, there’s a question mark, so this must mean they are expanding the backpack size to accommodate room for the number or hats and weapons being added to the game in the next update.
Although, we could be wrong…

TF2 Tactics: All Engineer Defense in Badwater
It’s very fun and very effective while on defense.
When they started, people were saying “spread out!”, “dont build all at once”, “build your dispensers first!”. And they’re absolutely right. Those 3 things are the most important things to remember when doing this strategy.
Spread out.
- Meaning build your sentries in strategic places covering each other and protecting your flanks.
Don’t build all at once.
- At the start of the map there won’t be enough metal to sustain the whole team. So you have to conserve and build just enough structures to be able to defend against the first wave of attackers. That means don’t build 10 level 1 sentry guns…
Build your dispenser first.
- This is an absolute rule of thumb even when not playing all engineer. If you build a dispenser first — you’re ensuring that everyone will have a steady stream of metal available. Metal will be your lifeblood!
As you can see on the video they had a lot of sentries destroyed. But the rate at which they were replacing the losses proved to be too fast for the attacking team.
TF2 Tactics: All Demoman Offense and Defense in Badwater
The team won the round with all demoman offense and defense.
TF2 Tactics: Demo-Sentry Kills
In this video they talk about the different ways to kill a sentry:
- Side Sticky
- Strafe Sticky / Pipe
- Pipe the Engineer
- Aim for the Top of the Sentry
- Jump then Pipe / Sticky
- Sticky Vertically
- Use your Teamates as Shield
- Stickies Weakness
- can be shot
- can be blown away
- too slow at long range
- Pipe Weakness
- hard to aim
- have to be a direct hit
Tests:
- How many stickies to kill a level 1, 2 or 3 sentry
- How many pipes with direct hit
- How many bounced pipes
- Can a level 3 dispenser keep up with the damage?
Notes:
- There’s a reason why the demoman weapons arc, it is the only class that can kill a sentry without direct line of sight.
- General Rule: If you have a straight line of sight use pipes because it hits harder and faster, if you have to use corners use stickies.
- When you use pipes as long as it lands close to the sentry it doesn’t matter if you miss or don’t cause a direct hit, since the pipes on the floor will kill the engineer anyway, and then you’re free to kill the sentry.
- The difference between soldier and demo: soldiers are reliant upon killing the engineer first. while demoman can kill the sentry without killing the engineer first.
